About me

My name is Denise Grieve. I’m originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, and moved to France in 2011 with my husband. We love our new life here in Aveyron, where we have always felt at home. We renovated our old farmhouse, adopt many abandoned, abused and sick dogs. In Scotland, my work as a Psychotherapist included professional teaching where I often organised and ran training workshops and education in colleges and universities throughout Edinburgh. I was also a mentor and trainer on the South of Scotland CBT course along with teaching different therapeutic techniques to different services in Scotland. Teaching was a large part of my job.

When we arrived in France, I became an English Teacher initially in a school children’s holiday activity centre in Villefranche-de-Rouergue where I provided all indoor and outdoor activities in English including cooking, drama, sports, singing and Scottish country dancing events! I then started teaching English at the I.T.E.P. de Grezes where I worked now for over 10 years. I have taught English on a new course at the CCI in Rodez, where I developed the English component to the adult educational course.

For several years now I have also been I have also provided private English classes and groups. Some years ago, I ran children’s English activity groups in Espalion for different ages, focusing on the development of children’s confidence in speaking English and broadening knowledge of English vocabulary. I have been developing my adult English conversation groups for a number of years, initially based in the town hall in Gaillac d’Aveyron. Now that these adult classes have grown in size, I have moved them to my home in Mezerac, offering a warm and relaxed environment which further aids the learning experience.

During our adult conversational groups, we enjoy and share ‘a cup of tea’ (or coffee!), and, if my husband hasn’t already eaten all the biscuits and cakes, we also get the opportunity to share them too!

If my English lessons or groups sound interesting to you, come and join us!
